Visitors were keen to explore the religious and archaeological sites for which the city is famous, as well as enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and unique natural scenery that makes Saint Catherine a distinctive destination for lovers of ecotourism and adventure tourism. This continuous influx reflects the growing prominence of Saint Catherine on the global tourism map, given its unique combination of ancient religious heritage and stunning natural beauty, which contributes to supporting tourism and revitalizing the tourism sector in South Sinai Governorate. Diverse Nationalities Ibrahim El-Baz, Director General of Public Relations in Saint Catherine, stated that the total number of visitors reached 450, including: 73 Egyptians. The foreign nationalities represented included Russia, Belarus, France, Tunisia, Argentina, Malaysia, and Romania, reflecting the growing international interest in the city. He explained that 250 tourists and visitors, including 60 Egyptians, ascended Mount Sinai to enjoy a unique spiritual experience, either on foot or by camel, amidst the breathtaking natural scenery for which the region is renowned. Key Historical and Religious Landmarks He added that Saint Catherine’s Monastery received 170 visitors, including 15 Egyptians, who toured one of the oldest monasteries in the world and explored its most prominent historical and religious landmarks, including the Burning Bush, the Church of the Transfiguration, the museum, the historical library, rare manuscripts, and the Covenant of Muhammad. Al-Baz noted that the city is currently witnessing a significant increase in the number of visitors, especially university students and youth groups, in addition to those interested in religious tourism, mountain climbing, and exploring the historical and cultural heritage of the monastery. Regarding the weather, he explained that Saint Catherine experienced hot weather during the day and mild weather at night, with a high of 34 degrees Celsius and a low of 21 degrees Celsius, ideal for climbing trips and sightseeing. After completing their trek to Mount Sinai, visitors continued their itinerary by visiting the Colored Canyons, the late president’s rest house, and experiencing authentic Bedouin life. They also purchased medicinal herbs and Sinai handicrafts, for which the region is famous, in an experience that combines religious, environmental, and heritage tourism.
